A few months back, Microsoft shared what they think life will be like a decade from now. From electronic newspapers that seem amazing to real-time conversation translation, Microsoft has extraordinary predictions for communication, collaboration, social enterprise design and production technologies.
A year later – how close are we to this vision?
The popularity of touch screens and augmented reality is on the rise, but we are far from having many of the other technologies shown in the video, such as a well functioning digital surface. The closest technology available to this is Microsoft Surface, which is far from being ready for everyday usage.
Even in failure there is hope.
But the failure of new technologies does not mean we will never reach Microsoft's ideal future. Every year new technologies are being added to our everyday lives. At the end of 2009, Google released Google Goggles – a visual app for Android phones that lets you search using pictures instead of text. Apps such as this give us hope that we will one day be using electronic business cards and transparent walls to communicate with people across the world.
